October Gardening Weeks 1, 2, 3 & 4<\/h2>\n

Garden Beds:<\/b><\/p>\n

\u25aa Continue to keep all garden beds weed-free.<\/p>\n

\u25aa Water plants as required. This is necessary if the fall is dry, and will help plants overwinter.<\/p>\n

\u25aa Adjust automatic watering systems: reduce watering frequency, especially on the lawn!<\/p>\n

\u25aa \u00a0Leaf removal should be done throughout the month. Read this blog post<\/a> for City of Vancouver regulations concerning leaf pick up.<\/p>\n

\u25aa \u00a0Plant annuals: pansies and mums add splashes of colour, and kale is a great way to add colour that’s also edible!<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b>Hedges & Broadleaf Evergreens:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

\u25aa \u00a0Trim hedges for a tidy look all winter long.<\/p>\n

\u25aa \u00a0Apply a slow-release granular fertilizer to early flowering broadleaf evergreens including Rhododendron, Azalea, Sarcoccoca (sweetbox), and Choisya (Mexican mock orange)<\/p>\n

Lawn Care:<\/b><\/p>\n

\u25aa \u00a0Continue to mow your lawn so long as it is required.<\/p>\n

\u25aa \u00a0Water only if the autumn is dry, and reduce watering on saturated patches.<\/p>\n
